Thomas M. Stricker is with the Laboratory of Computer Systems, where he currently holds the rank of an Assistant Professor. The research of his group comprises the construction of parallel and distributed systems and their system software. His current projects include the construction and performance characterization of "clusters of workstations and clusters of personal computers".
Thomas Stricker started his undergraduate studies in 1982, in the newly founded program for computer science & computer engineering here at ETH Zürich. After the completion of his studies in 1988, he joined a CAD systems project at the IBM T.J.Watson Research Laboratory in Yorktown Heights, New York, followed by doctoral studies at the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. In his doctoral research he investigated hard- and software of high performance communication systems for parallel systems and supercomputers. Part of his projects were done in close collaboration with industrial partners at Intel Corporation in Beaverton, Oregon and IBM in Yorktown Heights.
In his current projects Professor Stricker explores systems entirely built from standard components. His preferred style is experimental research supported by the construction and the analysis of prototypes. Whenever possible, his projects include some applications with users outside the core area of computer science. Professor Stricker is a member of the ACM and the IEEE computer society.
